International Construction Jobs

Question:
What opportunities are there for Australian Degree trained Construction Professional in the UK, Europe, Asia or US?

Answer:
No experience the guy is worse than useless for the first few years. Lots of successful experience proveable, and it will show clearly in the mans demeanor and bearing... from a low of $50,000 (rock bottom) to a high of $150,000 or so...higher if you produce miracles without getting shot by anyone.

rates vary around the US as well...Florida seems to be paying about 40% less than San Francisco for example, but living costs are much higher in SF.

If you are experienced you can search google for web sites on the subject of "contract contruction management' and do well world wide, again depending on the factors Ive mentioned above...

As you may or may not know, if you try to fake in construction management the contractors eat you alive, the jobs goes over budget and the owner shoots you....if you are top notch you can always find good work.. 5 years experience for some is OK in a narrow area, say tract homes...for high rises etc...10 or 20 years is a minimum...for industrial specialties that much or more experience.... if you have over 30 years experience I found its best to keep quiet about it...claim the years you have in the clients particular project area.

You can do a jobs wage search on Yahoo and find management positions in facilites paying 200,000 dollars a year...lots of them. Its my view that one doesnt get hired for those, they are insider union tenure positions, I work with a lot of those guys, brilliance is seldom a characteristic...do go figure.. You could come in with vastly better qualifications and not get that pay...but you very well might get 100k.

for 100k you have to be demonstratively competent looking, in the eyes of some moron in upper management who judges you by your line of crap....and paper...but not on performance because these guys most often have no clue about that.

Such positions are very very high stress for normal or responsible people, those who tend to stick are often but not always completely corrupt...and age toward the brain dead spectrum...a self protective set of mechanisms
