Question:
I am trying to find employment in Colorado in the Boulder or Denver areas
(preferably Boulder), and I currently live in California. Can anyone direct
me to on-line job listings for this specific geographical area? There must
be listings that a person could either telnet into or ftp. Can anyone give
me any leads?
Answer:
I hope you mean the Sunday Denver Post. The Boulder Camera
rarely has decent/many openings listed. As far as I know, the colorado
jobs group (can't remember exact name) got cancelled due to an intense
lack of activity. Not to be a bummer, but there are FEW FEW FEW FEW jobs
open around the state for engineer types. Programmers are still getting
jobs. The state is desperate for doctors. There is an alleged lawyer
shortage (momentary pause for expression of violent despair and outrage).
Several software companies are moving out of Colorado due to the passage
of an anti-homosexual ammendment. All of this is impacted by the fact that
38,000 Californians, 20k+ Oregonians, and 15k+ Arizonans moved into the
state last year. 50% of these folks are college-educated people who came here
with no jobs, just the hopes of a better place to live. They don't have jobs.
State unemployment (counting those who have stopped looking or are
temporarily discouraged) has been estimated at 10%.
Reports about Colorado have been rosier than what I depict here. The new
taxbreaking airport has created hourly construction jobs. Companies that
moved in in the past three years have offered hourly, labor jobs in a
17:1 ratio to salaried, office jobs. The trend is towards a minimum wage
lower class, and the trend is fast.
Is this something new? I know the voters of Colorado just
defeated legislation according specific protection to gays and
lesbians, but that's quite different from what you stated.
