Question:
Other than TripWire, has anybody found a good Hard Hat for Joes, SSAMs,
Adams, even Ken.
Answer:
You might try using a SOTW WWI or British helmet. Painted silver or some
bright color they look like the construction helmets of the 50's or early
60's.
Secondly, it is part of the uniform which is often required
by regulations. Third, the reason they tote them around
so readily is because they get "used to" them just as
you get accustomed to wearing any piece of clothing.
There are a great many construction workers who do not
care for wearing the hardhat, and they often do not do so
even though regulatiosn often require they wear one. If you
take a real close look at large road crews you'll often see
these people wearing alternative hats such as baseball or
cowboy hats (to keep the sun off their head).
And construction workers do not make up any significant
percentage of the ranks of "libertarians" who give a shit
about civil liberties,.... so whats your point?? These
same people probably would not have a problem with
drug testing either, or any other rule which they had
shoved down their throat which they may willingly
accept simply because somebody else says so...
If you are attempting to "complement" these people for
their lack of any moral stance on an issue or their
complete disregard for personal liberties.. well.. hmm..
Why anyone would go out of their way to complement people
who demographically do not sem to have any particular moral
stance in life.. I dont know..
My father is what I views as your typical "blue collar worker".
He has been in the contracting industry for 30 plus years...
His mentality:
"fuck politics boy.. dont waste your time with that shit..
you go to work, do what your told, when your told,
and when get home, be happy"..
Yeah, real fucking brillian ambitions in life.. go to work, get home..
How wonderfully fulfilling to know that is what some people boil
life down to.. Go to work. Dont question anything. And you'll be happy.
I'm not going to criticize you for wearing a bike helmet, but you
threw down a gauntlet, and I am picking it up.
OSHA requires hard hats on construction sites. Those guys wouldn't be
allowed in the construction area with out them. They probably kept
them on because that is the most convenient place to carry a hat.
