Question:
"I asked Greg, a 33-year old African-American and a United Brotherhood of
Carpenters cardholder, to comment on the fate of young black men and women who
might pursue those construction jobs [the ones taken by illegal aliens] . . .
“ 'Some enlist in the military,' Greg said. “The vast majority struggle
to get the few legit jobs out there and make do with whatever they can get. As
for the rest, have you ever wondered why there are one million blacks in
prison?"
Answer:
An old buddy of mine was in the construction biz. He had two companies;
Quality masonry and Quality concrete. I worked for the masonry Co. My pal
met a guy who said he could get him a complete crew of Mexican concrete
workers, laborers and finishers. This worked fine for him for a while even
though he had to lay off all his American concrete crew. His concrete biz
soon doubled and doubled again. Not only did he pay them much less than his
old crew but he rented a house to them at way over market value and took
care of their shopping and transportation needs which he deducted from their
pay. Virtual slave labor.
Then one day two of the guys over-turned a truck full of concrete forms on a
busy street right on some lady's car, KILLING HER.
The Mexicans hopped right on a bus before the cops even got there and went
to the airport and flew to Texas and disappeared. Over the next few months
the INS and the IRS picked this guy apart and he went bankrupt. I think he
should be in jail but who do you think he blames?
THE UNION not his own greed or recklessness. Go figure.
So, tell me, then... where are the organizers from the Carpenters? Those
Mexican workers would join the union in an instant if the union would help
them obtain citizenship!
A few years back in Los Angeles, Mexican "drywaleros" waged a hard fought
battle for a union and won. Originally the Carpenters Union ignored them,
then when they kicked ass they decided to organize them. They are probably
one of the strongest most militant locals in their entire union today!
So instead of trying to figure out ways to "protect American jobs" by
discriminating against our brothers and sisters who just arrived here (like
our ancestors did) why don't you fight for full citizenship rights for them?
You will not only make rock-solid trade unionists out of them, but you'll
win the support of their families back in their home countries, many of whom
work for Ford, Chrysler, etc., and can help us win strikes in the US by
going on sympathy strikes in their own plants!
