Question:
anyone ahve a copy of a really good construction contract they want to share
hopefully it would be on excel or ms word. as a beginning builder i am
trying to be as thorough as possible without handing a buyer an inch thick
contract.
Answer:
I work for a Fortune 500 corporation and have managem multi-million
dollar projects. One of the first one's I did as a young engineer was
for about $250K, fairly small. I spend literaly weeks writing a very
detailed contract, including scope of work, progress payment schedule,
etc. I investigated the company, visited them personally a number of
times before signing the contract and still got in trouble. They showed
us enough stuff to make it look like they were making progress according
to schedule, but were in financial trouble and hid that quite well. By
the time we realized that they hadn't accomplished nearly as much as
they'd led us to believe, it was too late to switch somewhere else. I
ended up paying almost $400K to get the work completed and even then it
wasn't per the contract. When I approached our lawyers about suing
them, I was told the cost would outweigh anything we might recover from
them!
