Question:
I'm interested in buying a pair of cowboy boots for the first time.
The local boot store offers all of the big names like Tony Lama,
Justin, Nocona, and Dan Post, but they don't offer much assistance.
My shoe size is an 11D. I also have a high in-step and not much of an
arch. Will I have problems finding a boot to fit or is one brand
better than the others given my foot conditions.
Answer:
I speak from years of experience, so here's my advice. Get you a pair
hand made from a "sho-nuf" good boot maker. He will make your boots to
fit perfect. There are small differences between your two feet and
unless you get them custom made for each foot, there will be a "pain in
the foot". As Jim says. you can get a real pro to stretch them to fit
also. I found that good quality Kangaroo is hard to beat!!!
If you want to go store bought, I would recommend "Lucchese" brand
boots. Your feet will be happy, but your bank account might gasp at
first. In most stores, they go for at least $350 at the low end. You
might get a better deal online though if you're confident about your
size. Most onliners should let you return them if you only wear them
on carpet -- don't scuff the soles.
I've never had any fit problems with them. You might recheck your
foot size in the store with their foot gauge thing though if you plan
to order online.
You will spend and waste more money on "store bought" boots trying to find
something you can walk more than 30 minutes in than you ever will getting
them tailormade for your very own feet. Find yourself a good bootmaker and
stick with him. You will be walking on air.
Put it in your search engine. It is very un-Texan to recommend boot makers.
It's a cowboy thing.
