Question:
Danner Boots - Comparisons ? Comments ?
Answer:
I used a pair of Danner Rain Forest Boots while doing private contract
work for the USFS. I have to say that I was fairly pleased with the
performance, but the boots are pretty well trashed after one season of
every day field use. Certainly, the Gore-Tex is buggered up (although it
was very nice while it was intact). This is supposed to be Danner's
heaviest boot, and I wouldn't want to go any lighter. I also like the
block Vibram on the Rain Forest as opposed to the Kletterlift. Don't
pay over $200 US per pair
If you want a tougher (and potentially custom fit) boot, I'd go with
either a Wesco (Scappoose, OR) semi-lace to toe boot or one of the
White/Buffalo boots made in Spokane, WA. Wescos and Whites are about
comparable in price at the moment; Whites are "handmade" for what that's
worth; the Wescos have a double vamp, which increases water resistance.
price should be about $240 US.
