Question:
Years ago I used to see small clamp on book lights for sale. Recently I
thought this would be great to have when quilting away from home where the
lighting was not so great; I could just clamp it to my hoop. BUT, the book
lights they sell now have more of a paperclip type grip on them, not a
bulldog type clip. Anyone know where I can get one with more of a clamp? I
use a 12" hoop, so it would have to be a light light . I am usually
broke, so it would have to be an inexpensive light as well.
Answer:
Just looked this up. Looks like what I'm looking for. I had checked out
Nancy's Notions, but didn't find one.
Another thing I've seen recommended on rctn for needlework is the
"Snake Light" sold in hardware stores. They're battery powered, and
can be shaped to drape around your neck and aim the light where you
want it. I haven't tried it myself.
Hmmm. Wonder if they have lighter (no pun intended) versions. Those suckers
are heavy! They were a little pricey when they first came out. I haven't
checked lately.
They'll make you look like you're off to work down the Quilt Mine,
though. Most will even fit over a hard hat.
Most useless lighting gizmo I've heard of in a long time: something
discussed on uk.comp.sys.mac recently - a little torch on a flexible
stem that plugs into the ADB port on a Mac (the one they use for the
keyboard or mouse except on the most recent machines). I suppose the
idea is that you plug it into a spare port on your keyboard and then
you can see the keys to type with all the lights off. But why anybody
would want to do that beats me.
