Question:
i have mandrake booting fine from hard disk (hdc) with lilo graphic and i
made boot floppy in harddrake just as it stands there. my problem is, boot
floppy doesn't boot. i always get error message:
"error 0x04"
i need this for i would like to set a dual boot system linux- w2k on the
disk.
Answer:
Install Win2k first on the first, primary partition, then install Linux on a
secondary or extended partition. Trust me on this. Let LILO overwrite the
Win2k boot sector so you are displayed the choices between Win2k and Linux
at bootup. If you do the other way around, you are asking for trouble.
Win2k will do horrible things and you may not be able to boot either system.
i thought of installing linux _first_ and this on the _first_ partition just
becouse otherwise i fall out of first 1024 cylinder on disk (27gb) lilo or
grub can cope with. yes, i read this would be possible with that new
lilo/grub thing, but not on my comp:((. although my comp isn't that old (ca.
2,5 years). i try to make this f... dual boot system for the last two weeks!
somehow is something always going wrong, wether i can boot only from floppy
but not from disk, or reverse or i am not able to boot linux at all. very
funny game...
