Question:
Any Las Vegas residents out there? How do you like living there. I am
trying to relocate and from what I understand Vegas is quite affordable.
Hows the retail Market out there?
Answer:
You must not have kids to make that statement. Unless you can afford
$8k-12k a year per child for preschool-8th grade, and $12k-20k per child
per year for high school, you'll be stuck sending your kids to some of
the worst schools in the country.
On the other hand, there currently aren't waiting lists to get your
kids into the good private schools. My friends in Silicon Valley have
to put their kids onto long waiting lists to get into Challenger (a
good private school) and out here, you just show up with your kid and
pay the tuition and you're in.
I still pay over twice as much per kWh in Silicon Valley as I do in
Las Vegas. I'd love to be paying Las Vegas rates for my place in
Silicon Valley.
Meat seems to be a lot cheaper in Las Vegas, but in CA we get better
produce, and there's no comparing the fresh seafood. I go to Smiths
in Las Vegas to buy shrimp, and they pull a bag out of the freezer and
count them out. I have to drive all the way to Ranch 99 in the Chinatown
mall if I want a wide selection of fresh seafood.
Las Vegas may be a good place to live but Daytona Beach Florida is
better. I have lived in Daytona Beach since 89 and love it. The Winters
here are warmer than Vegas and the Summers are cooler with a nice sea
breeze coming in. I love walking on the beach at sunrise and watching
the sun rise over the ocean and the sea gulls. You can't do that in
Vegas. We have Speed weeks with the Daytona 500 and Bike week which is
the world's largest motorcycle event. We also have far better fishing
than Vegas has. If you like to gamble we have the Florida lottery, dog
racing and a casino boat. We are also close to Orlando and it's great
attractions. So before you move to Vegas check out Daytona Beach first.
Agreed, unless you're in the Health or Construction industries, jobs are
hard to find, and most companies are on "hiring freezes"
