Question:
After 4 years of rough service, it's about time to retire my Redwings (boots).
Before I buy another pair of the same I thought I'd ask if any of you can
recommend anything different.
I need a tough (leather?) boot, no steel toe, that offeres firm support,
yet is comfortable to stand in, on concrete, for many hours a day.
Any ideas ?
Answer:
I've got a pait of Red Wing Engineers boots thate are 15 years old, been
re-soled twice, and a pair of Workboots that are on thier third soles,
both are still as comfortable as tennis sneakers.
I have always bought the Greb work boot, it looks like a cowboy boot, it comes in steel
toe and no steel toe.The boot has no laces which was the main selling point for me.
I've been real happy with my Timberlands. I wear the just above the ankle
version but they also make higher ones. I like the comfort and support and
the soles are soft enough to give some padding on concrete. The only dislike
is the soles get slick when wet on some types of tile floors.
I'll second the Timberland selection. I've got a pair that are more comfy than
any other shoes I've owned.
OK, so they are not 'work boots' but there's no reason that you couldn't use
them as such.
And I would go for steel toes unless you plan on wearing them in airports. Why
not? No difference in comfort plus the next time you drop that sheet of plywood
on the ole footsie, it won't get broken. Of course, none of us has ever done
that before. I think Timberland does make a few steel toe models.
