Timberland Pro Series Work Boot?

Question:
new employer is an assembly line. they require steel toes on shoes. The only thing like that I own are some steel toed boots. I sweat in them. My skin breaks out. I am trying antihistamines and caladryl/calimine. When I get paid I might get the oatmeal based stuff that has mostly replaced this.

Any good suggestions? My doctor a few years back recommended sneekers and white sox, and that has keep the red breakout stuff off me. But these are illegal on my new job.

Answer:
Try spraying your feet with antiperspirant (and giving them a few moments to dry) before putting on your socks and boots. Wear only white (dye-free) 100% cotton socks. Dust some plain talcum powder or medicated foot powder inside your socks, *and* inside your boots. Take your boots off the *instant* you get off work - keep a pair of sneakers in the car, and change your footwear before you leave to go home. Wear sandals, without socks, around the house as much as possible, to give your feet as much exposure to the air as you can.

I find the real problem is cheap boots. Get a lined boot, and it will keep your feet dry by wicking away moisture. Unlined boots are basically just sweat traps.

My current steel-toed boot is a Timberland Pro series 6" traditional outdoor water proof boot (you need that for Florida's rainy season). http://www.sacksstore.com/shop/6intradsoft.asp

Note the presences of a sockliner - that's the feature you need to prevent your rashes. Yes, they are not cheap - but I wear them 270 days of the year, more or less.

Our scene shop has no airconditioning - in Miami - and I've never had wet feet. Wet hair, sopping wet t-shirts [in fact, we measure hot days by the number of t-shirts you soak through], sweat-soaked shorts, even my work gloves have been sweated through. But my feet are always dry.

What is Your answer?
