Question:
I just bought a pair of mid-size Timberland hiking boots at the Sports
Authority. Has anyone had any experience with this brand? I wasn't sure
about them, but the store said they were returnable if for any reason I
didn't like them.
Answer:
I have a pair of them, too. It is quite comfortable but the outsole is
really bad except for the appearance. Once i walked on a downhill after
the rain in Mexico, i could hardly keep my balance. I had to hold on to my
friend's shoulder in order to walk properly.
Are they the tan work-boot type that is particularly hip right now? If
so, you're probably better returning them. Work boots and hiking boots
are strangely different.
I can't speak for that model, but I can highly recommend Timberline's
customer service. A few years back I bought a pair of mid weights (on
close out) which I dearly loved and used for four years. On a canoe
trip, the soles began to shredd off. When I returned home, I called
Timberline to find out if I could get them repaired. I wasn't
complaining since I figured I had gotten more than my moneys worth, I
just wanted to keep using those boots. They said to ship them the boots
and within 5 days they sent me a letter saying that they couldn't repair
them since they didn't make them anymore and to pick out a new pair of
boots...from their entire product line! I'm still using my gortex
boots.
