Question:
I'm looking for some skiis for my 2 1/2 year old. The plastic ones used over
snow boots would be fine, but they are $50 new. This seems a little high for
some toy skiis. I would also consider a real ski/boot/binding setup. Anyone
have anything like this laying around collecting dust that they would like to
unload? Boot size of toddler 9 or 10 should work.
Answer:
I don't have any skiis, but am curious as to when you can tell
that your toddler might be ready to handle the bunny slopes?
I have a 14 month old that I'm not considering putting in
skiis this year, but what are the signs of readiness. Running?
Climbing? Fearlessness?
I think that back stability is a good sign. If your son can slide down a
slide then he's ready.
We got a very stern lecture from our pediatrician, who said you should
never take children younger than 3 years old skiing. It has to do with
bone development. Apparently before 3 they're easier to break, and the
resulting fractures are more serious.
In my experience they're really not ready to ski until they are four
anyway.
