water proof fishing shoes?

Question:
I am looking for a water proof shoe to wear when fishing in my boat. The rain suit I have keeps me dry but my feet get wet. I would like to find something comfortable to wear all day and easy to get off and on. Lacrosse makes one called Halsey. I cant find anyone local who has them in stock so I can try them on. Anyone have any suggestions for other shoes to try?

Answer:
I happen to use West Marine brand, as the size 14's were on sale. But all the ocean tuna guys use the purpose built fishing boots

Most guys in my "neighborhood" use rubber boots from the local wally world. They're cheap and readily available. Whatever you do, don't let anyone talk you into anything with a zipper. Nor do you want a short boot; water does run uphill and will sneak up your pants leg into a short boot. For extremely cold rainy days I wear a pair of insulated waders instead of the rain pants

I hate to send anybody to Wally World, but I discovered that the waterproof steel toed work boots work great for me. I have a bad foot that I smashed in a motorcycle wreck about three years ago so I need the support of a good boot anyway. For some it may be too much foot wear for a day ont heir feet, but I thinkt hey are great. As long as I don't submerge my feet they stay dry. On those occassions when I have to submerge my feet like pushing off a sandbar my feet still are pretty comfortable in these boots when wet. Sorry, I don't recall the brand, bt they are clearly marked as waterproof. They are cheap too. Running $40 or less. I would buy some mopre expensive boots, but the guys in the outdoor stores that sell them don't seemt o want to try and help me find a boot that fits.

I usually buy two pairs at a time, and I change every day from one pair to the other. This gives a chance for sweat to dry out of the boots before the next time that I wear them. They last a lot longer, and my feet stay dry day in and day out. Also, I don't get a foot odor problem this way. I never wear the same pair of boots two days in a row if I can help it. These are the same boots I wear every day working. I do light construction, and offcice work so my days can vary from spending all day sitting at my desk to spending all day climbing up and down a ladder.

Int he past I would usually get 6 months out of a set of foot wear. By switching back and forth with these boots I get a year and a half to two years out of them. I do tend to wear out a lot of boot laces.
