Question:
I am looking for steel toe work shoes that are waterproof and warm. (25
degrees weather) The steel toe shoes I have found don't seem to be lined
and don't say anything about being waterproof. I found some great looking
hunting shoes which are waterproof and warm, but they are not steel toed.
Anyone have luck finding warm steel toe shoes?
Answer:
These are insulated, steel toe work boots. I am sure you can have them
waterproofed if they aren't already.
Do they need to be steel? Iron Age (I believe, if not them then redwing)
sells a plastic-toe that meets the same spec, and isn't cold in the winter.
If you're looking to pass the OSHA or whoever specs, I'd say go for the
plastic (fiberglass shell?) toes instead. Much less heat transfer
through the protective caps that way.
Do you have Dr Martens shoes or boots in the USA (if that's where you
are)? They have air-insulated soles, and are extremely comfortable.
They aren't specifically waterproof, but I've never had a pair leak
under normal building site conditions.
Heh. It's important to do that with the wife not being home, by the way.
I got into a, well, bit of trouble back when I was in college. Working
for a gentleman who built aircraft components. We just got a batch of
parts from the machinists, and had degreased & washed them, and wanted
to dry them off. Slightly warm oven (so as not to screw up the metallurgy),
parts on racks, no problem.
His wife came home, and this became a problem. Neither of us had the
heart to tell her it was SOP. (the procedure was later changed to include
"Make sure Doris will be gone all day before using her oven").
There was something about the dishwasher too, but it's been an awful long
time and I don't remember the details
