Question:
I've used Redwings for the past 10 years and want to try something new.
I'm a Fire /Medic so they will be used on EMS runs for the most part. We
get lots of rain so they need to be waterproof. At this point I've been
looking at Thorogood 8" Structural FF Boot, the Pro-Warrington
Style 3005, and Ranger 8" Black leather firewalker. Any comments on these
or other suggestions .
Answer:
I'm on my fourth pair of Rocky "Eliminators" (not the all leather) and I
wouldn't buy anything else. I get about five years out of them before they
start seeping water in.
They're about $150, but for me that averages out to $30/year for a good pair
of boots.
I like the Magnum HiTech boots. They have lasted me several years so far
and are really comfortable. Whatever you decide on, dont forget that you
get what you pay for. I got lucky and found mine on sale :)
Is that the "Eliminator" or the "Eliminator 2"? I can't seem to find any
regular ol' Eliminators any more these days. And the prices of them has
sure gone up over the years. I need new soles on my Eliminators that I
bought back in '94 I think it was. I haven't work them in a few years due
to a crappy re-soling job that I had done on them. They squeak every time I
take a step now. I am thinking about trying a pair of Rocky "Portland"
boots soon. I think that is the model of boot on the Gall's website (they
don't have a name with it) for $82.xx and at that price, I don't see how I
can pass it up. Bass Pro Shops also sells that model (actually named that
model on their website) and they are charging $115.xx for it. They look
somewhat similar to the Danner Acadia boot.
