Question:
Ive got some terrible Sims AA boots..the linerless ones...In order to
get the boots tight enough to prevent heel lift Ive got to either
cinch them soo tight that my feet ache/ freeze(fall a sleep)..Needless
to say this is soooo uncomfortable it aint funny...I notice the major
drop off in board response too, if i leave them loose enough to not
ache..Its either deal with the pain , in order to be able to have any
kind of control, or keep them loose and sacrifice alot of
control....sigh...And yes Ive since learned, get good boots first then
build your setup from there...heading out to Big Moutain, Whitefish
for the weekend and need some kind of work around...
Answer:
Just buy boots which fit. Most people buy boots which are too big, then you
get heel lift.
They don't have to be comfartable when you're just walking. When you bend
your knees your toes go backwards
Yes a heel cup or a heel wedge or a full insole may help. Which to use
depends on your exact fit problem.
If the heel space in the boot is just too big all around, a cup is the thing
to try. A heel cup may also help if the problem is with boot length.
If the ankle support does not feel loose on the sides, try a wedge instead.
A full insole is more apt to work if the arch area of the boot is loose. A
full insole with a heel cup can actually cure a boot that is just too big a
size.
These tend to be "fixes" that can create other problems (like pressure
spots), but they are cheap and might give you a better week-end. Once in a
while they actually can be a complete cure.
.. I've started to have some heel lift on
my forward foot, and the boots are good boots! I've been riding
in them since last year, they have probably been out a total of 40
days give or take. I'll give those lacing methods a go as I also
get the arch ache.
