Question:
For years I have heard about representational systems and what they're
supposed to do.
I started studying NLP in 1994. I thought the idea of representational
systems was fascinating. In all those years I have still not found any use
for that idea.
The reason is that there is no such thing as a primary representational
system. There is no way to categorize someone by VAK, KAV, AKV or anything
else.
Answer:
If anything the concept of representational systems has done more damage
than good. For years I have heard people run around telling people that
they are kinesthetics or visuals. They began believing the label and they
became more stuck in being kinesthetic. They took on the hypnotic
suggestion that there was a primary representational system. Then they
began living their lives inside of the label. This is damaging and stupid.
While this thread on representational systems has yielded some interesting
examples. The problem as it is not yet yielded one use of the concept. I
am not talking about a hallucinated use. I'm talking about a real-world
example of where someone has used the concept of representational systems to
successfully get a verifiable outcome.
Representational systems are very closely tied to eye accessing queues. The
problem is that eye accessing queues have been disproven completely. The
only discipline that still believes that they are even possible is NLP.
Even as I write this I remember how I would have reacted to this post back
in 1998. I would have claimed that the person who wrote this just didn't
understand NLP. I would have suggested that they get some good training. I
would have suggested that just because they can get something to work
doesn't mean that it doesn't work.
On the front of our web site there is a video of a guy. He is one of the
nicest guys in the world. He almost breaks into tears when he describes the
frustration of his NLP training experience. He was told that he was the
problem because NLP could not be the problem.

I understand how that feels and that is why I write these articles about
NLP. It's not promote myself or promote any product that we designed. I
write these articles because I remember the frustration that I felt by not
being able to get NLP to work. I went to a variety of different trainers
including bandler. I remember the anger of spending so much time in being
given so many empty promises. I remember being told that it was my fault.
When I see a grown man almost reduce the tears because he has spent so much
money and time only to be told that he was the problem it just pisses me
off.
So maybe I will ask this question one last time and we can actually get an
answer that happened in the real world. Where has somebody used
representational systems in everyday life that had a verifiable result the
only be credited to representational systems?
Oh we are auditory so we pluck ours eyes out since we don't need them. I am
always amazed at the number of idiots that think nlp or anything else for
that matter is some sort of religion.
You know, EVERYONE, myself included, that goes to self-help are trying to
solve a problem or change themselfes in some way. This is how I found
Nlp.BUT, just where is god given common sense??????
I once went to one of those Silva Mind Control things. I walked out the
first day of a 4 day program....why?.....because the instructor clearly
thought SMC was some sort of end all to your problems, it was clearly a
religion for her......I will not mention her name for I'm sure you guys know
her ( I could have been to one of your great programs....ya just never
know.....;)
Anyway, wheres the comon sense of Michael Hall.....wheres the science he
puts behind it........just sick to death of all this whoo whoo crap.
If you want something mysticial seek God.........and not the god of
Ray.....snicker.
