Question:
Does anybody know of a portable boot drier (dont say a hair dryer!). My
boots get very wet inside after a days skiing, this leads to cold feet the
next morning. There must be some gadget out there for drying out your boots.
Answer:
I've been using the "dry Sticks" or "Happy Feet" for about six years. The
air circulates by convection and my boots are nice and dry in the AM after
leaving the sticks in all night. I do about 115 days a year and am well
pleased with these items. They pack well for trips as all you have to do is
stick them in one boot.
I know many people who are happy with these. They are small, pack in the
boots and only use one electrical outlet.
The best new materials for custom insoles mold a very low temperatures. If
you have an InstaPrint, Conformable or certain other insole in your boot you
should stay away from any device that heats the inside of the boot. I ruined
a really good pair of insoles thia way last season and had to buy a
different set of dryers that just blows room air into the boots.
When travelling I have put my boots unbuckled and spread open in the
bathroom with the heat lamp and fun running while at dinner and achieved a
boot dry enough to ski the next day. If they weren't dry enough when I
returned from dinner I just ran them through another timer cycle on the
bathroom heater. Note: I do not put my boots near the heater.
