Question:
I am building a boot dryer for my condo. Can anyone advise me on how much
fan I need (i.e. how many cubic feet per minute) to dry 4 pair of boots
simultaneously?
Answer:
I made a boot dryer using a hair dryer and PVC piping but had a problem with
the PVC bending and breaking because of the heat, the other problem it was
larger than I would like to travel with.
I found some very small fans that has a small shield that surrounds the fan
blades and small enough to fit into the boot. It is very quiet, compact and
most importantly works great. I just shove it into the boot and turn it on,
I use a timer on mine. I also use in my work boots and other shoes when they
get wet or soaked. The fans cost me $10 each, I don't remember whether I
bought them at Wal-Mart or some other discount store.
Why bother building a dryer when you can buy effective portable one for about
$25. The ones that look like little sticks of dynamite with a cord attached
work well and are very portable.
Yeah, the various ski school locker room ones I've experienced just blow air
though, using the warmed air of the locker room for warmth. I'm pretty
impressed with these gadgets actually, and wish we had them here in Oz! They
look pretty easy to make, using that pipe they use for hydroponics.
